The Mopria Alliance, a global non-profit membership organization chartered to drive industry-wide standards for mobile printing, today announced the next step forward in its mission to simplify printing from mobile devices. Available immediately, Mopria is launching a new version of the Mopria Print Service, allowing Android users access to new Mopria print capabilities, focused on key updates to the service’s enterprise features. With this new version, it’s now possible to print using just Mopria both at home and at work.

The Mopria Print Service 2.0 release includes enterprise features allowing for user authentication, which will enable Mopria users to print to printers that require credentials or pin codes. In addition, the update will allow for accounting, transport security, and stapling. Together, these features will enable secure and seamless mobile printing from a range of mobile devices to any Mopria-certified business printer.

“The Mopria Print Service 2.0 gives business users a new, simple way to print from their mobile devices to Mopria certified enterprise-class printers, regardless of printer brand, while at the office, traveling for work or at home,” said Greg Kuziej, Chairman of the Board at Mopria Alliance. “With the rise of BYOD and the mobile enterprise, the need for standardized printing from mobile devices in the workplace has never been clearer.”

Since its launch, the Mopria Print Service has enabled printing on Android (4.4 or later) smartphones and tablets to Mopria certified printers from 98% of worldwide printer manufacturers. Mopria allows users to easily print photos, web pages and documents when their mobile device is connected to a Mopria certified printer through a wireless network or using Wi-Fi Direct. Supported print settings include features such as color, number of copies, duplex, paper size, page range, media type and orientation.

"Mobile print is rapidly becoming an expected feature within many business printer environments,” stated Keenan Thomson, Senior Analyst for gap intelligence. “With a list of new security, finishing, and accounting features, Mopria Print Service 2.0 will allow a greater number of businesses to enable mobile printing for their Android-based workers.”

In the two years since the establishment of the Mopria Alliance by founders Canon, HP, Samsung and Xerox, the nonprofit membership organization has grown to 21 members representing more than 98 percent of the worldwide printer business. The Mopria Print Service is available for download from Google Play or via direct download at Mopria.org. Mopria technology is also currently preloaded and available for immediate use on select Huawei and Amazon devices.
