AIIM, the global community of information professionals, today announced a new social media governance training program for information management practitioners at all levels who are challenged to effectively capture, assess, integrate, monitor and protect social media assets for business.

The new AIIM Social Media Governance Training Program is built on best practices and proven solutions for managing and governing social media content for the benefit of businesses. The course covers basic concepts associated with governance processes and practices as they apply to social media generally and to specific tools including Facebook and Twitter.

For most organizations, social media fundamentally changes how communication is managed. Information professionals are increasingly tasked to identify ever-changing social media assets and develop effective and responsible methods to govern them.

The course will address how to guide employees, customers and partners through a social media strategy while protecting companies from risk. Students who complete the course will gain a deep understanding of the business and technology implications of social media and how to bring social media initiatives to the next level for their businesses.

The program differs from typical "how-to-use" social media courses by providing a clear understanding and knowledge of all the elements of governance including policies, processes, roles and responsibilities, internal vs. external tools, regulatory requirements and business relevancy.

"Our new training program is designed to help information and social media practitioners across business and technology teams successfully work together on effective and responsible social media governance models that empower business," said AIIM President John Mancini. "Participants will walk away with a better understanding of how to align social media in a meaningful way to business objectives of their organizations."

The AIIM Social Media Governance Training Program is available both as a two-day instructor-led classroom course and a 26-module online self-paced learning course. Students who complete the course and pass an online exam will receive the Social Media Governance Practioner (SMGP) designation.

The AIIM Social Media Governance Training eLearning bundle is offered at $790 per person and pricing for professional members is $650 per person. The AIIM Social Media Governance Practitioner Course is approved for 9.0 credits towards the Certified Information Professional (CIP) credential maintenance.
