Westbrook® Technologies announced a new version of its FortisBlue Web-based software for managing an organization's electronic and paper documents. The product now offers integration that brings its document management capabilities to Microsoft SharePoint Server (MOSS) users. A federated search feature makes it easy to access, share, view and print documents from within either the SharePoint or FortisBlue repository.

FortisBlue supports viewing more than 300 file formats, and the FortisBlue SharePoint Integrator Module (SIM) provides a Web Part add-on that allows documents to be viewed within MOSS without installing the native application on individual desktops. FortisBlue SIM enables FortisBlue customers, who use or plan to use SharePoint, to tap into its archiving, workflow and viewing capabilities while reducing overall implementation costs and decreasing the storage capacity needed in SharePoint.

FortisBlue ImageIt, another new option, integrates the document repository with line-of-business applications without custom programming. Users can access supporting documents directly from their other business applications; there is no need to search through paper files or switch between disconnected systems to obtain information. FortisBlue ImageIt adds new functionality without retraining because users are working in their familiar, line-of-business system interface. Hot key shortcuts also save time for higher staff productivity.

By adding FortisBlue FormIt, users can create dynamic, Web 2.0 forms with drag-and-drop technology. Applying custom or existing templates, a user can easily create multi-page forms, tabbed views and collapsible sections. They can index and archive completed forms into FortisBlue automatically and share data with line-of-business applications.

FortisBlue captures, archives, searches, annotates, retrieves and safeguards documents for small to mid-size organizations. It is easily accessible from most Internet browsers making it an easy to implement, affordable solution, of particular value for entry-level implementations with first-time users of document management. With zero footprint on employee computers, organizations will save a substantial amount on IT resources without sacrificing usability or processing power.

Of particular note is FortisBlue's ability to manage and annotate almost any document or file type. FortisBlue also provides workflow functions for approvals and notifications, and helps organizations meet compliance/audit requirements. It has full text and metadata search, optical character recognition (OCR), document manipulation, and desktop scanning.

FortisBlue is built on the most advanced and commonly used tools and platforms including .NET Framework 3.5, JavaScript and Windows® Communication Foundation (WCF). WCF is the most frequently used Web Services platform and a part of the .NET Framework that provides a unified programming model for building service-oriented applications that communicate across the Web and the enterprise.
