Kofax® Limited (NASDAQ: KFX) (LSE: KFX), today announced that Altosoft, a Kofax company and developer of business intelligence and analytics software, introduced Altosoft Insight™ 5.0. Insight 5.0 delivers significant new capabilities, including a distributed in-memory architecture, continuous simulation and governed data discovery. It gives organizations the ability to rapidly assemble, analyze and visualize immense amounts of complex data to improve decision making, operational effectiveness and profitability. The release was formally introduced at the Gartner Business Intelligence and Analytics Summit, being held in Las Vegas this week, where Altosoft is an exhibitor, and delivers three key technological innovations:

MapAggregate™: MapAggregate is a major enhancement to Insight developed to meet the challenges of rapidly expanding data volumes and overcome the inefficiencies and architectural limitations of first generation in-memory business intelligence (BI) and analytics software products. First-generation in-memory BI and analytics software products are limited to using the memory found on a single server and its CPU resources. This problem is compounded by the fact that they also require as much as an additional 10% of overhead for each user, causing even modest data volumes to quickly overwhelm most servers.

MapAggregate provides organizations with the next generation of in-memory BI and analytics and unlimited scalability by enabling the distribution of data across multiple servers to exploit their available memory and CPU resources. Hence, MapAggregate achieves the performance benefits of in-memory technology without the limitations imposed by a first generation, single server in-memory approach.

"The growth of investment in business intelligence technologies has greatly increased market expectations for BI product benefits," said noted business intelligence analyst Claudia Imhoff, President of Intelligent Solutions. "Insight 5.0 meets this challenge by extending its process intelligence capabilities with simulation-based prediction, as well as introducing MapAggregate, a new approach to in-memory BI. MapAggregate improves the scalability of in-memory solutions and reduces underlying hardware costs."

Continuous Simulation: Continuous simulation is a powerful new predictive analytics capability that provides improved operational forecasting for business processes being monitored by the Insight 5.0. These forecasts are continually updated and refined based on actual operational data being collected, resulting in more accurate forecasts and predictability.

Using a dynamic process model that continually adjusts forecasts based on the latest conditions, continuous simulation provides a more precise, real-time analysis of an organization's operating environment. In contrast, more traditional statistical techniques, while adequate for steady-state trends, cannot detect and predict the impact of sudden or evolving changes to historical patterns. Predictive approaches based on static process models often result in poor results, due to issues with the model's rigidity and quality, as well as incorrect assumptions related to the conditions being simulated.

"As business intelligence becomes an increasingly critical differentiator for companies of all sizes, they need solutions that can scale both in terms of data volumes and the practical power of the analysis they can deliver," said Scott Opitz, Altosoft‘s general manager. "Insight 5.0 redefines the standard for scalability and performance, while delivering true predictive insights into the performance of a company's business processes."

Governed Data Discovery: As organizations expand their use of BI and analytics across the enterprise, governed data discovery becomes increasingly important. Insight 5.0 addresses this challenge with two new capabilities. First, the software can be centrally installed, updated and administered on one or more servers while making client applications, including development, configuration, dashboard, management and other tools, accessible to business users via browser based interfaces that do not require the installation of software or plugins such as Microsoft Silverlight or Adobe Flash/Flex on their computers. Second and as a result, IT is able to centrally administer the software in order to ensure proper governance by maintaining control over user and data access rights as well as the approved definitions of the data and business logic underlying information delivered to users.
