Karen Monks

Karen Monks is an Analyst in Celent's North American insurance practice. She brings a broad range of insurance and consulting experience to her work as she has worked as a management consultant to and within insurance carriers and other financial services companies for over 16 years. She has been with Celent for almost three years.


Ms. Monks’ research concentrates on life insurance technology and trends. Her recent reports concentrated on life and annuity policy administration systems, new business and underwriting and mobile technology. She is currently writing on closed blocks of life and annuity products and STP in life insurance. She also has been the co-author of the past three Celent North American Insurance software deal trends reports and the author of "Model Insurer 2012: Case Studies of Effective Use of Technology in Insurance." Recent consulting projects include a marketing and distribution management systems review, an eApplication cost analysis and several small life insurance technology analyses.


She began her career as a Financial Management Program Trainee for General Electric. After completing her MBA in 1991, she joined Coopers & Lybrand’s Financial Services management consulting group. From 1993 through 1999, she was a management consultant for John Hancock’s internal consulting division, focused on strategic projects driven by IT. From 2000 to 2003, she was a contract consultant for TowerGroup’s Consulting Services Group where she worked on various FS projects. Prior to joining Celent, Ms. Monks was a financial analyst for a small Richmond, VA financial valuation firm.
