OutputLinks Communications Group announced its newest class of Women of Distinction Award recipients: Anja D'Hondt, duomedia; Sylvie Joseph, La Poste; Jennifer Matt, Web2Print Experts, Inc.; Sally Pirri, The Globe and Mail; Mary Lee Schneider, R.R. Donnelley; Mary Beth Smith , Girls Who Print and AlphaGraphics; and Davita Vance-Cooks, U.S. Government Printing Office. Honorees represent Belgium, Canada, France and the United States. The annual Women of Distinction Awards celebrate the numerous achievements of exceptional women - from around the globe - in the document communications, graphic arts and high volume transaction output industries.

Honored at GRAPH EXPO 2012, the seven 2012 honorees - distinguished and well-known industry achievers - were selected by OutputLinks Communications Group for their experience, leadership and contributions to the output industry. Nominations were submitted throughout the year by technology vendors and document and print professionals, and each of the award recipients exemplify a wide range of professional, technical, entrepreneurial, management and marketing and skills.


The Women of Distinction are also commemorated annually with a $5,000 university scholarship, funded by OutputLinks and administered by EDSF, the international non-profit organization dedicated to the document management and communications industries.

Anja D'Hondt - Belgium

After acquiring a degree in public relations and communication sciences, Anja D'Hondt started her career at Scitex Europe in creative services and public relations. In the mid 1990s, D'Hondt moved to Brady Corporation as European marketing communication manager for wide and narrow format print systems. In 1999, she founded duomedia, a pan-European PR and marketing communication agency for technology and industrial companies. The office is based in Brussels, Belgium, with representatives across Europe and a partner in the United States. duomedia offers high-quality, strategic communication services in technology, graphic arts, packaging and labeling, and other vertical or industrial markets. The company's new tagline is engaging people across industries, technologies and cultures - pursuing a strategy of adding value, creating interaction and improving the bottom line for all clients, media and co-workers. In her professional and private life, D'Hondt highly values respect and integrity, and she likes to contribute to a better world and environment.








Sylvie Joseph - France

CMO

Mail Business Unit, La Poste

Sylvie Joseph, who graduated from Reims Management School, has dedicated her professional life to marketing, market share growth and studying consumers in BtoB and BtoC markets. Joseph is also a retail expert in Europe, and she worked in marketing and promotion consultancy from 1982 to 1998 at Havas and Publicis Groups and in her own consultancy company, D&J. From 1999 to 2005, she created the global marketing and promotion function for Carrefour in Europe and in France, and for Conforama (PPR Group) - two big companies with a deep evolution of their business model. She was general manager of HighCo Solutions in Europe, a French company listed on the French stock exchange and focused on promotional solutions. In 2008, she joined Group La Poste, to help reengineer 1,000 post offices, which was accomplished with much success and customer satisfaction. Since January 2010, she managed the marketing and customer relationship department at the Mail Business Unit of La Poste. In March 2012, she was appointed CMO, in charge of strategic marketing, product marketing, customer knowledge management, customer relationship, sales administration and quality process and control.








Jennifer Matt - United States

Founder, Web2Print Experts, Inc.

Author, Web to Print

Jennifer Matt wasn't planning on a career in print, as she was educated in marine biology and environment law. Nonetheless, she found the print industry at Kinko's in the early 1990s in Silicon Valley. Drawn to the entrepreneurial nature of Kinko's at the time, Matt built the largest and most profitable technology services division in the country, and she fell in love with the art and science of building software. Post Kinko's, Matt was instrumental in several print-related technology startups before joining EFI, where she led their web product group. In 2007, Matt accepted the role of president of NowDocs, where she won some of the largest web-to-print deals in the United States at UPS Stores and OfficeMax. This year, she published her first book, Web to Print, and HP printed and distributed 18,000 copies at drupa 2012; all proceeds from the book are being donated to EDSF. In 2010, Matt founded Web2Print Experts, Inc. because her former customers wanted product independent advice and technical assistance with print-related technologies. Her first customer win was at the U.S. Department of Defense, where she and her team implemented web-to-print across 200 print centers globally, including a custom billing application integrated into DoD's financial systems.








Sally Pirri - Canada

Director, Production

The Globe and Mail

Sally Pirri is director, production, at The Globe and Mail, Canada's national newspaper. Since joining the company, Pirri has held various operational roles in both circulation and advertising, before moving into production management for newspapers and magazines. In 2002, Pirri was promoted to director, production, responsible for all Globe and Mail printed products. In her tenure at the newspaper, she has seen the publication through several redesigns, including the most recent in 2010, which included the negotiation of an 18-year printing contract. In her current role, Pirri oversees the production and printing of The Globe and Mail newspaper and Report on Business Magazine, as well as building and maintaining relationships with the print partners across Canada, including Transcontinental Printing and Glacier Media. The Globe and Mail is now printed in six sites across Canada on new industry-leading hybrid printing presses. Under Pirri's leadership, The Globe and Mail has been awarded membership to the International Color Quality Club, a worldwide competition that is held every two years. The Globe has been a member since 2000, winning in the category of coldset printing, and it will be accepting its 6th prestigious award in October 2012, in both coldset and heatset categories.








Mary Lee Schneider - United States

President, Digital Solutions and Chief Technology Officer

R.R. Donnelley

Mary Lee Schneider is president, digital solutions and chief technology officer for R.R. Donnelley, the world's largest provider of print and communication solutions. Schneider has responsibility for identifying, building and growing technology-enabled capabilities and businesses for Donnelley, as well as for setting overall imaging technology strategy and investment direction. Her responsibilities include Donnelley's Research & Development organization, whose engineers and scientists specialize in developing groundbreaking digital printing and imaging technologies, as well as for creating breakthroughs in the materials sciences. Schneider was responsible for building Donnelley's Premedia Technologies business, one of the world's largest providers of digital photography, color services and digital asset management services to retailers, catalogers, publishers, agencies and corporations, with over 1,200 employees across 31 locations worldwide. She also had responsibility for new product development, including the launch of Donnelley's industry leading ProteusJet inkjet platform, and CustomPoint, its web-based ecommerce portal. Prior to coming to Donnelley, Schneider worked in publishing in production roles at McGraw Hill, Time Inc., Condé Nast, and the Gannett Corp. She is a member of the Board of Directors of Follett Corp. and of VSP Global, and is a member of the Economic Club of Chicago.








Mary Beth Smith - United States

Founder, Girls Who Print

VP of Sales and Marketing, AlphaGraphics

Texas native Mary Beth Smith has worked in the printing and communications industry nearly 30 years. She brings a diverse background in marketing, public speaking, training and music education to her work. In 2009, she created the LinkedIn discussion group "Girls Who Print." Initially expecting it to be little more than an online coffee break for perhaps 20 of her friends around the country, she remains shocked, yet thrilled, that as membership nears 4,000, Girls Who Print continues to grow in the United States, Canada and Europe. In August 2012, she announced plans for the first annual National "Girls Who Print" Day, to be hosted at GRAPH EXPO 2012 in October. National Girls Who Print Day launches a yearlong "Peace. Love. Girls Who Print." campaign, spurring a grass-roots movement among women in the industry, to educate our friends and customers that they can all recognize that "paper is our friend" and enjoy guilt-free printing. In addition to her work with Girls Who Print, Smith is vice president of sales and marketing for an AlphaGraphics franchise in Dallas, Texas, where she works hands-on as a real girl who prints.








Davita Vance-Cooks - United States

Acting Public Printer

U.S. Government Printing Office

Deputy Public Printer Davita Vance-Cooks became acting public printer on Jan. 3, 2012. Vance- Cooks serves as the chief executive officer of the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) and is the first woman in GPO history to lead the agency. As the provider of official Federal Government information in digital and printed formats, GPO produces U.S. passports, the Congressional Record, the Federal Register, and a wide variety of other publications, and provides public access to Government information products through Federal depository libraries nationwide as well as free online access via GPO's Federal Digital System. Vance-Cooks is a seasoned business executive with 30 years of private sector and Federal Government experience. She joined GPO in 2004 and has held a succession of senior management positions. Before coming to GPO, Vance-Cooks held several private sector management positions, including NYLCare MidAtlantic Health Plan, Blue Cross Blue Shield Plans and HTH Worldwide Insurance Services. Vance-Cooks earned her bachelor's degree from Tufts University and her MBA from Columbia University.
